Can you tell us a bit about how you came to music and especially to breaks?

I began playing in relatives’ parties and friends when I was still 15 years old, in the beginning of the 90’s, and I played House Music, Freestyle (Miami Bass) and Hip Hop. I’ve always liked the break beats. I became devoted to Breaks in 2000. Nowadays I play several slopes of Breaks and I mix it up with a little bit of Electro, Techno and House.

How would you describe the breaks scene in Brazil and what are the differences to the other scenes?

Unfortunately the Breaks scene in Brazil is small. Few dedicated parties exist to the style. I usually play in parties that promote different styles. The interesting thing is that although there isn’t an expressive Breaks scene in Brazil, if you play Breaks at any party the music will be well received by the crowed. I think Breaks is a style very easy of being assimilated. Everybody likes it, although few know exactly what is. In Brazil, nowadays, the strongest scenes are Electro House and Psy Trance.

As we know you also produce in your Hometown in Belo Horizonte. Can you tell us a bit about your studio setup, like which Hardware/Software do you use?

I don’t have a big studio. I just have a good computer and a good sound equipment. I don’t use any hardware like synths, groove boxes or equalizer. All I use today is the software Ableton Live and a lot of VSTs and Plugins. I’ve been working with the Ableton for one year now and I’m very happy with it. I’ve made some tunes and I have some projects to be finished. You will soon see some of my tunes out.

What can we expect in a Nedu Lopes DJ Set and where do your influences com from?

My sets vary a lot according to what’s happening on the dancefloor. But I play mainly Breaks with influences of Electro, Hip Hop and Ragga. I always play music that would make me dance if I was in the dancefloor. I think the people can wait for cheerful music and scratches. = P

In which direction do you think will the breaks sound develop in future?

One of the most interesting things of Breaks, in my opinion, is the easiness of mixing several influences. Nowadays, there is a strong influence of the Electro and Minimal in the dance scene. I think is hard to tell what the musical scene is gonna be like in the near future, but I guess that this fusion of Breaks and Electro will be more and more used in the following years, as well as Breaks and Rock.

Can you describe one day in the life of Nedu Lopes? (in chronological order)

I don’t actually live a routine. My schedule changes a lot, but when I am in my home, I spend a lot of time in my home studio. But I worry a lot in taking care of the health, then I always make some physical activity every day. I love soccer. And I usually go out at night with my girlfriend and friends.

Please complete the sentence: Breaks is…

…the best style of eletronic music, because it is a crossover of all the other styles.
